Freshman Orations

The long awaited Thursday has finally come, when the Freshman members of Phi Kappa Literary Society will stand before the society and present an unplanned resolution. The older members have been scheming for weeks over the topics, their whispers echoing off the walls of Phi Kappa Hall and the SLC. What could the resolutions be?

Come out to Phi Kappa Hall this Thursday at 7 p. m. to see the annual Freshman Orations, a meeting like no other.

To the Freshman siblings, I suggest you “check yourself before you wreck yourself.”

Good luck to all.

Anniversary Meeting

For the span of Phi Kappa Literary Society’s packed Anniversary Meeting last weekend, time seemed briefly suspended. Storied alumnus of the recent and (less recent) past bonded with their active siblings over their favorite PK memories. The resolution BIHR: The Income Tax Is A Fair Form Of Taxation failed to pass by only one vote after a rousing debate. By meeting’s end, Bro. King had outlined his plans for his future progeny to rule the world, Bro. Worley and Sis. Oberg had done their part to bridge the gap between the science and literary worlds, and Sis. Nelson, in a rare victory for Wikipedia, presented a warning against putting all your research faith in government websites.

BIHR: Embarrassment Is The Best Teacher

Most of us have had at least one teacher who found a way to poetically breathe life into the subject they were teaching, even if that subject happened to be sixth-grade algebra.

Most of us have had at least one teacher who instilled a sense of embarrassment so deep that it went beyond having our heads weighed down by dunce caps, our essays saturated in red ink, our bladders unrelieved by bathroom breaks. That shame inhabited our very souls.

Which method is the most effective could be the subject of debate.

Thankfully, Phi Kappa Literary Society’s Sister Fuller will be presenting Be It Hereby Resolved: Embarrassment Is The Best Teacher this Thursday at 7 pm. Brother Summer will be negating.
