The Healthcare Debate

For Thursday, October 1st,

The Phi Kappa Literary Society has held out all semester on debating the most contentious topic of the year, and now, for one night only, come speak, listen, question, and debate the future of health care in the United States.

Be It Hereby Resolved: The United States ought to adopt a government run public option health insurance program to compete with private insurers.

The Intellectual Property Debate

Sister Shuck has sent out her definitions for the debate to get us going in the right direction. They are re-printed below with her permission.

It is my privilege this week to present our debate! And so I would like to present the resolution along with the definition so that our members attending may prepare […]. Without further ado:

Be It Hereby Resolved: Intellectual property should be subject to the same legal protections as physical property.

The definitions are as follows:

Intellectual property (IP) refers to creations of the mind: inventions, literary and artistic works, and symbols, names, images, and designs used in commerce.

“legal protections” refers to the laws in place in the United States which provide consequences for the taking or use of property without due compensation and laws concerning ownership of property (i.e. length of ownership etc.)

Physical property may refer to personal or real property, real property referring to land.

About the New Site

This new site is powered by SquareSpace.com. That means a lot of things. But, just know for sure that it means that it will be a breaze to update and customize.

The current design is a modification of a template. The modifications were made by me with the assistance of Sister President Baker. The content on the site so far is mostly just pulled over from the old site, processed to make it look better and edited for style and content by Sister President Baker.

The Future

This site wil not just sit here stagnant for the furtue siblings in the society to gawk at and mock. No, it will be a constant desination to come to for information about all the things we Phi Kappans care about. If you would like to write an article for the site, let me know.
