We Debate Tenure

This Thursday in the hall, we take on the question of tenure and university professors. Have some of them been here a bit too long? Maybe, we could show them the door if it weren’t for their tenured status at the university.

The debate will be presented by Sister Kristin Foxworth and Negated by Brother Jeff Libby.

Definitions from Sister Foxworth:

Here is the resolution and definitions for tonight’s debate. Sorry it has taken me so long. :)

BIHR: The practice of tenure should be abolished in universities and high schools.

I am defining tenure as the contractual right not to have a teacher’s position terminated without just cause, granted after a probationary period which varies with the institution. For high schools this period is usually three years, and for universities it is usually seven.

Abolished is being defined as “done away with.”

This should be a very fun and interesting debate! ^_^
